Greetings!
We held the first Academic Pep Rally of the year on Friday, Sept. 14th. Travis Randolph, son of Thomas Randolph 8th grade language arts teacher, was the guest speaker. Travis graduated from DCHS in 2005 and was home on a short leave from Iraq. The cheerleaders lead the students in cheers as each group was presented a banner with the year of their graduation. These banners will be hung in each hall way to remind students of their commitment to complete high school. Mrs. Janey Jansen van Rensburg, DMS graduation coach, sponsored the assembly and put it together for the student body. Mr. Ron Phillips, DCHS principal, briefly addressed the student body on the importance of staying in school and graduating. Mrs. Patty Priest, superintendent, and Ms. Annice Goodwin, director of special programs for the Dade County School System were also in attendance. We appreciate their support in this all important endeavor.
We are looking forward to seeing many of you at lunch this week! Mothers on Monday lunch is September 17, Grandparents lunch is September 20 and Father on Friday is September 21. Please check with your child as to the approximate time and be sure to sign in at the office.

- Friday away against Rossville
Football this week:
- Thursday away against Rossville
Cross Country:
- Thursday away at Greenway
Please call the office or email your child's teachers to set up parent/teacher conferences. If you child is missing work or is having homework issues, you might want to consider having him/her participate in our after school program. The program runs Monday through Thursday from after school until 5:30. There are teachers working in the program who can help with homework and with organizational skills. Applications went home in the brown envelopes at the beginning of the year, but are also available in the main office.
Thank you for working with us on the afternoon carpool. Things are going much smoother. A reminder: please pay close attention in the morning carpool to students getting out of cars and walking to the sidewalk. The students have been pretty good about looking to make sure it is safe to walk in front of vehicles, but it is always good to see the adults taking a second look before they start to pull out!
I have received several emails from folks interested in being a part of the DMS parent advisory group. I'd like to wait until the end of this week in case there are any more contacts and then set up a day and time. Thank you for your interest in our school!
Remember to mark, Monday, September 24, on your calendar. That will be the second parent workshop of the year, and it will be held in the media center.
