As we enter the home stretch of the 2007-2008 school year, there are several items that I need you to go over with your youngster. The media center is in desperate need of locating or at least accounting for all books. The books need to be inventoried, boxed, labeled, and moved so that the carpet can be pulled up and new tile be put down. This will be one of the first projects on the list for the summer work to be done at DMS this summer. The first project will be to pull up the existing tile in the "new" 7th grade wing and replacing it.

Another thing we need help with is money owed to the cafeteria. There are several students who owe money, but thankfully most existing debts are less than $10.00. Have your child check with the cafeteria managers to determine how much money if any they owe the cafeteria and work to eliminate the debt.

Finally, be sure your youngster can account for any textbook he/she was issued this year. In the next few weeks, teachers will be collecting textbooks.

Students who owe the school any money (missing library books, cafeteria debt, or missing textbooks) will not be issued a report card. In addition, 8th graders will not be allowed to participate in the promotion ceremony at the end of the year.

I appreciate your assistance in the above matters. If there is a particular hardship/situation regarding any of the above, please call and speak to Mrs. Hopper (guidance counselor) or Dr. Watkins or me.

The 8th grade trip to Savannah will be this week. I know the students are looking forward to it!

The Spring Sports Recognition will be held on Monday, May 12. Refreshments will be offered beginning at 6:30 and the program will begin promptly at 7:00.

DMS chorus concert will be held on Thursday, May 15, at Dade County High School.

We will have a "Kids Night Out" on Friday, May 16.

Our last Market Place was a huge success. The theme was "Greenovations" and all of the projects involved a creation that was made from recycled materials. Dr. Henry and Mr. Neely made an electric guitar from aluminum cans and Mr. Hinds played it during the awards assembly. Not only do we have talented and creative students, but we talented and creative teachers! A special thanks to Mr. Jelley, Mr. Randolph, and Mrs. JVR for organizing the event. The 5th graders from both Dade Elementary and Davis Elementary walked through the gym and students from Dade County High School participated showing off "chairs" they had made! All in all, it was a great experience!
