We have had many activities going on this week!
- The Oratorical Contest was held on Thursday, February 14. The top boy was Zach Cross and the top girl was Ansley Chilton. They will be participating in the county contest next week at DCHS.
- We had several students participate in the Math Counts competition in Rome on Friday, February 15. The DMS team consisted of: Cody Henderson, Macala Pickard, Anthony Casey, Nick Gagliano, Madison Ambrose, Jared Fuller, Colleen Gronek, Gavin McWilliams, Gary Johnston, and Shelby Shankles. This was the first time students from Dade Middle participated in Math Counts in several years. Cody Henderson placed 2nd in the Individual Competition and he placed 2nd in the Countdown Round. Congratulations to all of these students and we look forward to year!
- Each year we recognize several students for their school spirit. This year at the dance on Friday, February 15, the following students were presented: Amelia Sarrell, Kassie Ledford, Trent Faircloth, Andy Shrader, Jessie Cosper, Tanner Faircloth, Megan Brock and Nick Chitwood. The DMS School Spirit Queen was Amelia Sarrell and the DMS School Spirit King was Trent Faircloth!
- 8th graders received the first of several pieces of information regarding high school on Friday. Students were given letters for high school registration which will be held here at DMS on February 25, 28, and 29. Parents are strongly encouraged to be present at the registration. If you need to change your registration time, please call the middle school. If you have a question about the registration itself, please call the high school. Mr. Billy Millican, principal of DCHS, will be visiting DMS on Friday, February 22, to speak to the 8th graders.
- 8th grade parents: please plan to attend the parent workshop to be held on Monday, February 25, in the DMS media center. The topic will be: 8th graders and the CRCT. The workshop begins at 6:00 and will end at 7:00. You will be given valuable information about promotion/retention policies, the CRCT, and summer remediation. Just a reminder, those 8th graders who do not pass 5 out of 5 academic subjects and do not make the standard score in reading/language arts and math on the CRCT will not be promoted to the 9th grade.
