- On Monday, February 4, we will be recognizing 78 students at our annual Academic Reception. The recognition is for either making straight A's first semester and/or making a composite score of 90 or higher on the ITBS that was administered in the fall. Many of the students are receiving certificates in both categories. In total, there are 33 eighth graders, 28 seventh graders and 17 sixth graders.
- The spelling bee was held on Friday. Special thanks to Mrs. Sisson for organizing the competition.
- The Optimist Oratorical contest for DMS will be held on Tuesday, February 12th. Dr. Hamilton is in charge of this event.
- 8th graders will be taking a technology test on Wednesday, February 13th.
-The spring "dress up" dance will be held Friday, February 15th. At that dance we will announce our King and Queen of School Spirit. During the week of the 11th we will have several opportunities for students to vote on the King and Queen. At this dance the gym is decorated and we ask students to dress in Sunday dress. This does not mean formal dresses or suits. The Dade County dress code is in effect. If you have a question about appropriate dress, please call the school or have your youngster bring in his/her outfit so that we can make a determination prior to the dance. If a student is out of dress code he/she will be offered a DMS tee shirt or the opportunity to call home and have another outfit brought to the gym. This is a bit embarrassing for students, parents, and chaperones, so if there is a question, let's deal with it before February 15th.
- We will have visitors from the state in our cafeteria on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Please take a few minutes to go over appropriate table manners with your child. I have been addressing this during the morning announcements for the past few days, but some reinforcement from home would be helpful!
- Progress reports go out February 22.
- Educational Marketplace will be Tuesday and Wednesday, February 26th and 27th.
